Bridge the Gap

What happened between Suzuki Book 3 and Suzuki Book 4? Did we skip a book?
Many students arrive at Book 4 and suddenly feel as if they are unable to handle the repertoire. No matter how good a teacher, or how diligent the student, it happens.
If you have fallen into this hole, don’t waste time assigning blame or beating yourself up. This 10-month course will address your deficiencies and get you ready to conquer Suzuki Book 4.

Fun, Effective Prep Course for Suzuki Violin Book 4!

Fun and Gratifying!

This course includes ELEVEN amazing pieces with which you can showcase your expanding abilities. Think of these pieces as the proof of the progress you are making! Witness the results of your hard work in real time!

Full Immersion

Jump in with both feet. This course will demand 100% of your effort to be effective. Ten months will fly by either way. Will you spend that time making real progress, or struggling with pieces that are too hard?

Tackle Deficiencies

Having observed many students struggling with Book 4, I have identified VERY specific deficiencies they all have in common. This course tackles them very directly.

Who needs this course?

If you arrived at Suzuki Violin Book 4 and feel like you hit a wall, you need this course!

If you are rapidly approaching Suzuki Violin Book 4 and feel unprepared or nervous.

If you have been stuck on the same song in Suzuki Violin Book 4 for several months.

If you are in Suzuki Book 4 but you sound like you belong in Book 3.

If you are a TEACHER with students who have fallen into this gap.

You need this course if you lack the following skills:

    • Fluency in 3rd position
    • Ability to shift with ease and accuracy
    • Bow control: at frog, at tip, crescendo/decrescendo, detache’, legato, slurring, bow distribution
    • Posture and form: Your violin should feel like a natural extension of your body
    • Left hand form: no squeezing, fingers can play various finger patterns
    • Ability to play Book 1 and 2 repertoire without a hitch
    • Ability to play Book 3 repertoire from beginning to end of each song, perhaps slowing down, perhaps with a few big mistakes, but you can get through each song non-stop.
    • Scales: Able to play Two Octave Major scales: G, A, Bb, and C with ease.
    • Scales: Able to play Two Octave Minor scales: G and A with ease.
    • Scales: Able to play One Octave Major and Minor scales in most keys, by ear.
    • Ability to play simple holiday or folk songs BY EAR.
    • Read fluently at your playing level (if not, you need “Learn to Read Music” or “Wohlfahrt Op. 45” in addition to this course.)
    • Have a functional vibrato (if not, you need to complete my vibrato part 1 course in addition to this course)

What Red Desert Violin Students Are Saying

People just like you are learning to play the violin with my lessons.

I tried to find out what I was doing with each hand to produce the ugly sound. So I paid close attention to my physical movements. Voila! Several of your lessons flashed before my eyes :). One was the three elements of tone production. Another was the dreaded broken chicken wing. A third was colle and hand. A fourth was left hand death grip. So I took them one by one to see what difference each would make. Again voila! The ugly sound went away. … I can now believe that I actually could get some tunes down well. And a change in a part of one’s limiting belief system is a very big deal from my point of view. So thank you and congrats on finding a way to do that for so many of us.

When I started to play the violin, I tried several things to teach myself how. Traditional lessons were, at the time, completely out of the question since I was a truck driver full time, and out there in The Real World. … What you have is the best, and absolutely perfect, way for me to learn.

You’re fun! You have ways of teaching that suits me and my learning abilities. I can take my time, go at a pace that allows me to have a life also. You know, work and such. If I feel I want to take 2 weeks, or even more, to do a week lesson, well, so be it. You aren’t yelling at me to hurry up and get it already.

I did a lot of research before I settled on you. There are many choices for computer aided violin instruction out there. You were the most human, most fun, most real.

I am a trained musician, and I have had teachers. Good teachers. But none have pointed out these fun, interesting, and IMPORTANT, tricks, techniques, and exercises like Lora does. When Lora shows something like RINGY NOTES or 3 pig races, or Practice your Bow in a Mirror, for example, and then she sums it up with: Do this every day and it will PAY OFF BIG TIME… or she says: You”ll get Lots of BANG for Your BUCK HERE… well, that motivates me!

And it’s really happening. I actually enjoy practicing for the first time in my life, and I’m 54. LOL It’s because the way Lora breaks it down, it’s do-able. You are able to take each little skill and see how and where you need to fix it. Then all the little skills fit together like a big puzzle that I finally realize is POSSIBLE for me to ACCOMPLISH. This is a very fun approach. THANK YOU

  • I’ve had all your classes. Will I be re-purchasing the same material that I have already had? Yes, about 75% of the material in this course is from my other courses. HOWEVER, it is carefully selected based on concepts which students who are struggling need to strengthen. This course is remedial, and gives you a second chance on concepts you might have missed the first time.
  • What if I take longer than ten months? That is FINE. You have up to two years to complete this course. I want to PUSH you to avoid “stalling out” or getting stuck. So I want you to push yourself, but also take the time that you need to absorb these important skills.
  • What if my private teacher disagrees with what you teach me? Any good teacher recognizes multiple approaches to common topics. Most teachers will applaud your resourcefulness, because private lessons time is limited, and if you are able to address issues outside lesson time, it leaves more time for your teacher to work with you.
  • Can I go faster than the pace you recommend? Absolutely. My course is structured on the average private student I have witnessed. You may need to go slower or faster for your own needs.
  • I am a teacher, and I have a student who needs this course. How should I proceed? I would suggest that both you and your student purchase the course. You will want to have access to the same lessons your student is watching so you can help them. After you go through the course once, you will know exactly how to help future students.
  • What if I don’t have a private teacher? If you need help finding a GOOD private teacher, I can help you. But if you are self-instructing, keep in close contact with me and ask questions. If you have not already taken my other Suzuki classes, it is strongly encouraged that you have gone through Red Desert Violin Suzuki Book 1, 2, and 3.
  • Do I need to buy music? You will need Suzuki Violin Book 2 to complete the “Bow Distribution” lessons. All other music will be provided to you for this course.
  • How long will I have access to my lessons? You will have access to all of the lessons for two full years after your final payment. After that, you can purchase extended access for as long as you want.
